Steve Diamond pays tribute to outgoing players at Sale Sharks
Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond today paid tribute to the players who will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.
He said, “It’s always hard to say goodbye to players at the end of the season and I am sure the lads who are leaving will if they are looking to get fixed up at other clubs will do so quite easily.
Sammy Tuitupou was one of my first signings when I returned to the club and he has become a club icon over the last six years. He is moving into coaching with Coventry and I am sure they will benefit from Sammy T’s input, both on and off the field.”
Diamond added, “ Neil Briggs is joining the Academy Coaching Set Up. Briggsy is well respected and played a big role in helping the Academy team to the final earlier in the year.”
In Sam Bedlow, Andrew Hughes, Charlie Ingall,Tim Jeffers, Tom Morton, Matt Rogerson and Dan Mugford, Diamond said “They have all been limited in the number of games we have been able to offer them and its best for them that they move to other clubs to get more game time. In fact Sam and Matt have already been snapped up.”
On Magnus Lund and Jonathan Mills, Diamond praised them, “ They have both given me 100% and it will be sad to see them leave but our Academy production line has produced the Curry Twins and George Nott who are now first team regulars.”
Diamond also thanked Mike Phillips and Peter Stringer, “ They have been great for the club, the squad and the supporters. Nearly 200 caps between them and have helped their team mates and the youngsters coming through so much.”
Finally Diamond thanked Dan Braid who has left the club to return to his native New Zealand by saying, “ Dan joined us when we were rock bottom in 2012. He helped us recover to safety in the Premiership and went on to captain the side. He has been helping with the coaching this season but wanted to return home to New Zealand.”
