Saracens announce Singha 7s squad

Saracens have announced a provisional 12-man squad to compete against Harlequins, Northampton Saints and Wasps, at the Ricoh Arena on Friday 21 August (KO 7.15pm), in Group C of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s.

Former England 7s captain Nils Mordt leads an exciting twelve man squad at the Ricoh Arena. Mordt, who starred for England in the reduced format in the 2007 Commonwealth Games, has led Saracens to the JP Morgan 7s in 2010 and the Melrose 7s title in 2012 and 2013. He has been a key figure in the Allianz Park outfits 7s tournaments since he arrived at the club in 2010.

Joining Mordt in the squad is England U20s flyer Nathan Earle. Elsewhere in the squad, loose forward Matt Hankin brings energy and industry to the side and is joined by academy trio Matt Gallagher, Max Wilkins & Tom Whiteley, England U18s centre Dominic Morris plus Saracens U18s Ben Earle and Leo Fielding.

Coaching Saracens will be the clubs Academy Manager, Don Barrell. The former Sarries and Bedford loose forward is no stranger to the Sevens format having represented England 7s in his playing days. He was also a key member of Saracens’ 2010 Premiership 7s winning side.

Speaking about the Friday’s tournament, Barrell said: "The Singha 7s is a great opportunity for some of our younger players to show what they’ve got, and to show everyone how they have developed in preseason. It’s a great stage for them to highlight the skills they have been working on and it provides them a chance to showcase the individual flair they have as players.

"I think it’s exciting for the fans to cast their eye over the latest academy recruits who have just come into the club, and personally, it’s exciting for me as a coach to get to see how these guys go in a tournament environment."
