Sale Sharks launch new era for their Academy programme

Under the new CorpAcq & Morson ownership, and as further indication of the direction in which the Club is heading, Sale Sharks have made several major improvements to an already award winning academy (DPP) programme.

Director of Rugby, Steve Diamond, held a series of informative events at the AJ Bell Stadium for all DPP players’ parents, along with Sharks legend and Commercial Director Mark Cueto, and Academy Manager Brendan Thomas.

The events informed parents of the changes that we’re being made, including confirmation that the Club will be giving one free Season Ticket to all DPP players, as well as offering heavily discounted Season Tickets to all parents, as Steve Diamond expressed the importance of developing players to watch and experience elite-level rugby first-hand.

Parents were also told about a forthcoming phone app that will allow them to record their child’s home training progress and upload it directly to the Sale Sharks training console, enabling Sharks coaches to assess the activity and provide feedback.

Speaking about the event, Brendan Thomas said: “It’s a really exciting time for the Club and academy at the moment, with the vision of Steve Diamond & the new owners.

“We have a vision of getting 75% of the squad from the North West, and the DPP will play a key role in this”.

“We are also excited to develop our educational links with UCLan and Manchester Metropolitan University. We want to provide coaching excellence, the best education support throughout the pathway and wrap a package of holistic development around all of our players. We want to provide the best opportunities for our players & through our new links with these two leading universities, we can offer an educational route for our players beyond the age of 18.”
