Sale Sharks have today confirmed a new two-year deal for Russian international Andrei Ostrikov. After having played for Agen and Aurillac, current Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond gave Ostrikov his International debut when he was in charge of the Russian national side.
Ostrikov has played 26 times for Russia – including the 2011 Rugby World Cup – and has also racked up more 100 appearances for Sale Sharks. He was a relatively late starter to rugby as he was initially a volleyball player and only took up rugby at the age of 16.
Still under 30 years of age Andrei has been a regular starter for Sharks this season and is now one of the longest serving players at the club and is a model of consistency.
Delighted with his new deal Ostrikov said: “Dimes is a great coach and motivator. He has an old-school approach which helps push you forward all the time. I am settled here in the North West with my wife Julia and we are now house hunting in Cheshire. We love everything about the area, the countryside and all the advantages of living near the city.”
Director of Rugby Steve Diamond added: “When I first saw Andrei play, I spotted his massive potential. He was one of my first signings and he is a player who gives everything both on and off the field. He plays hard, trains hard and never takes a backward step. He is well respected by the whole squad and its great to get his signature on a new contract.”
