Rugby-mad kids set historic Guinness World Record title at Twickenham

TacklingNumbers-3005

Today, 323 children from around the country descended on the hallowed turf at Twickenham Stadium to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Longest human representation of a mathematical equation.

The children lined up shortly before their rugby heroes took centre stage for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final in London. The equation was created in celebration of a great year for learning maths with Aviva’s Tackling Numbers programme.

Aviva Tackling Numbers uses physical number-based touch rugby games integrated with interactive classroom maths lessons to make learning about numbers fun, exciting and rewarding. Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs regularly visit their local schools to show how fun maths can really be.

Each young participant joined in to form a gigantic line on the pitch, holding a card with a number or symbol on it, to form the giant equation. An adjudicator from Guinness World Records was present to make the record official. Aviva Ambassador Austin Healey was also on the pitch to oversee the record attempt. Aviva was presented with a certificate on the pitch at half-time to acknowledge the successful record.

Heather Smith, Marketing Director at Aviva, said: "Aviva is a proud sponsor of Premiership Rugby, so what better place to celebrate such a successful year with Aviva Tackling Numbers by involving 323 children from across the country in a maths-related GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt. This event showcases that the basis of Aviva Tackling Numbers is all about having fun whilst learning."

Aviva Tackling Numbers is an innovative and engaging programme for Key Stage 2 children. The number-based rugby games have been developed to bring some excitement to numeracy; the programme is also available online. To find out more visit www.aviva.co.uk/tacklingnumbers.

Aviva also showcased the recently released Rugby Matters documentary, which weaves together five different stories that demonstrate the power of rugby. The documentary also demonstrates the possibilities within the sport, to ignite a desire amongst fans to give back to the community and get involved in rugby – whether that’s playing, volunteering or watching from grassroots all the way up to Aviva Premiership Rugby.
