Referee appointments for EPCR quarter-finals

The referee appointments for the much-anticipated European Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup quarter-finals were announced by EPCR’s selection committee which is chaired by EPCR’s Head of Match Officials, Donal Courtney.

The Champions Cup knockout stage will get underway at the Ricoh Stadium on Saturday, 9 April with the all-Aviva Premiership clash of two-time tournament winners, Wasps, and Exeter Chiefs which will be refereed by Romain Poite of France.

Later the same day, France's Jerome Garces will be in charge of the other all-English confrontation between Saracens, who have reached the last eight for a fifth successive season, and the 2000 champions, Northampton Saints, at Allianz Park.

On Sunday, 10 April, Nigel Owens of Wales will be in the middle at Welford Road when the 2001 and 2002 champions, Leicester Tigers, take on last year's Top 14 winners, Stade Francais Paris, while England's Wayne Barnes has been appointed for the all-French showdown between Racing 92 and holders, RC Toulon, at Stade Yves-du-Manoir.

The quarter-final weekend kicks off on Friday, 8 April with the first of the Challenge Cup ties between Sale Sharks and Montpellier at the AJ Bell Stadium where Ireland's John Lacey will be in charge.

The following day's games between holders, Gloucester Rugby, and Newport Gwent Dragons, Harlequins and London Irish, and Grenoble and Connacht Rugby will be refereed by France's Pascal Gauzere, Marius Mitrea of Italy and England's Matthew Carley respectively.
