Referee appointments: Clare Daniels to make Anglo-Welsh Cup history

Clare Daniels will once again make history this weekend when she becomes the first female assistant referee in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

The 42-year-old became the first-ever female fourth official in Premiership Rugby history back in September when Exeter Chiefs beat Bristol Rugby at Ashton Gate, and she returns to the south west on Sunday to officiate as Cardiff Blues descend on Sandy Park.

Daniels is already the world’s most capped female Test referee, having refereed numerous matches at Women’s Rugby World Cups and Six Nations, and before taking on a refereeing role with the RFU was a sports writer for the Bath Chronicle for seven years.

Luke Pearce will be the man in the middle for that clash, while elsewhere Christophe Ridley will referee Scarlets v Bath Rugby, Mike Hudson is at Ospreys v Harlequins, and Greg Macdonald will cast his eye over Bristol v Sale Sharks.

Mike Adamson will be at Allianz Park for Saracens v Newcastle Falcons, Andrew Jackson takes charge of Leicester Tigers v Newport Gwent Dragons and Northampton Saints v Gloucester Rugby will be refereed by Craig Evans.
