Leicester Tigers team for Welford Road return

Mike Fitzgerald

Mike Fitzgerald, Mike Williams and Owen Williams return to the Leicester Tigers matchday squad for Saturday’s Aviva Premiership Rugby Round 2 fixture at home to Wasps (3.00pm).

Second-rower Fitzgerald returns to partner Ed Slater at lock as England international Dan Cole resumes in the front row after starting the win at Gloucester last week among the replacements.

JP Pietersen, Luke Hamilton and George McGuigan are in line to make their home debuts for the club after sharing in the opening-day trip to Kingsholm, while Matt Smith comes in at centre and Adam Thompstone starts on the wing.

After recovering from injury, back-rower Mike Williams and fly-half Owen Williams are included on the bench alongside England internationals Ellis Genge and Ben Youngs.

To mark the start of another season at Welford Road, Tigers In The Park hosts events and activities for supporters of all ages on the plaza outside the main stand and at Nelson Mandela Park adjacent to the stadium from 11am right up to kick-off.

Tigers and Wasps both won in Round 1 last week and Welford Road will welcome a bumper crowd with more than 23,000 tickets sold ahead of its first matchday of the new season. Tickets are still available at the Tigers ticket office. Book in person at Welford Road, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or online at www.leicestertigers.com
