Knight and van Vuuren latest to commit future to Bath Rugby

Bath Rugby is delighted to announce that front row duo Shaun Knight and Michael van Vuuren have both agreed contract extensions with the Club.

Knight arrived on loan from Newport Gwent Dragons in September, but has now agreed a permanent deal to remain in the West Country until the end of the 2017/18 season. The tighthead prop made over 20 appearances for the Welsh side before crossing the bridge to join the Blue, Black and White.

A strong scrummager, the former Gloucester Rugby front rower will now be looking to add to his eight appearances so far in a Bath shirt.

Knight said: “I’m really happy to have extended my stay at the Club. It’s been an extremely enjoyable six months and to be a part of a squad that has the potential of challenging for honours is really exciting.

25-year-old van Vuuren arrived at Bath from Leicester Tigers following spells with Top 14 side Stade Francais and Super Rugby’s Cheetahs and Kings.

The versatile, dynamic hooker was a part of the South Africa U20 team that competed in the 2011 IRB Junior World Championships made his debut for the Club in the 22-25 win against Pau in October.

The South African forward, who has signed a two-year deal added: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far, so when the opportunity came to stay at the Club I did not hesitate. The environment and culture that is being created at the Club is a special one, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the journey.”

Director of Rugby, Todd Blackadder, said: “It’s been a busy month or so with contract renewals, but we’re delighted to have secured a number of players in preparation for next season.

“Shaun and Michael are another two players that we had identified as playing an important role at the Club and I have no doubt they will offer a great deal to the squad during their time here.”
