Jono Ross makes the move to Sale Sharks

Jono Ross

Sale Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of Jono Ross on a three-year deal.

Ross, 26, is English qualified who at 6’3” and 112 KG can play blindside flanker of No 8. He is currently playing for Stade Francais and previously played for Blue Bulls.

Ross helped Stade to the Top 14 title in 2015 and has captained the side this season. He made his Blue Bulls debut in 2011 and he was appointed captain in only his third Currie Cup match.

Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said: “Jono is a great signing for us. He is a versatile player equally at home at flanker and No 8 and is also a leader on the field. His ball carrying ability will be a huge asset in the Premiership. Once we knew about his availability we moved quickly to secure his signature.”

On signing for Sharks Ross said: “ I am really looking forward to this career move. I heard that Steve Diamond was showing interest in me joining the club and I met up with him a few weeks ago. He showed me around the Carrington Training Base and the local area and I was really impressed. I watched the game against Worcester last Friday and was impressed with the bonus point win.”

On his time at Stade Francais he added: “ I have enjoyed my time at the club and living in Paris has been great but I needed a new challenge and playing in the Premiership with Sale Sharks is a great opportunity for me. It’s not been the easiest of seasons at Stade Francais but I will giving it my best in the remaining games to hopefully leave on a high.”

He remembered his time in England on Saracens books and said: “ I was a youngster at the time and had a couple of games for the first team. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to the hands on training the Premiership offers and helping Sharks to achieve their ambitions.”
