Inspired by Rio 2016? Work with the Saints to grow girls’ rugby!

The Rugby 7s has been one of the most eye-catching events at Rio 2016, with women’s teams from across the planet showcasing the skill and athleticism which has seen the sport go from strength-to-strength over the past few years.

If your school or club has been inspired by the high standard of Sevens shown by all four semi-finalists – including Team GB – to start a girls’ rugby team then make your first call to the Northampton Saints’ community team!

Team GB captain Emily Scarratt says that she hopes that the tournament can be a springboard for girls’ rugby in the UK.

"The support we've had from back home has been amazing," she told the BBC.

"To give rugby, and women's rugby especially, this exposure is awesome and if we've inspired one or two girls back home then we've done our job. Hopefully they can be playing in eight or 12 years time and bring home a gold."

We’ve got plenty of experience in developing girls’ rugby from the ground up, from teaching the basic skills and drills to more complex game understanding and tactics. We will also coach your coaches, giving that much needed confidence to adults who provide the week-to-week guidance to players.

The Saints community team also has the connections to help create a regular fixture list, too, thanks to our work in schools across Northamptonshire and the wider region over the past few years.

And later in the season, when your team is more confident, you can enter the Elite Insurance Girls Sevens, the Saints’ unique tournament for Rugby Sevens teams from across the East of England.
