Gareth Evans the latest to sign on again at Gloucester Rugby

Gloucester Rugby can today confirm that number eight Gareth Evans has put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the Cherry and Whites.

Evans, whose current deal was due to run out at the end of the season, has signed a fresh deal at Kingsholm, despite significant interest from elsewhere.

The Swindon born back rower has made 35 appearances to date since his debut against Worcester Warriors in September 2011.

A product of the Gloucester Rugby Academy, the 23 year old has recently returned to action, having recovered from a knee injury which curtailed the 2013-14 season, a campaign in which he impressed massively, particularly in the Heineken Cup.

Speaking to the club website, Evans expressed his happiness to be staying at Kingsholm.

"It's the first time that I have been in this situation as a senior player, but I am delighted to be remaining at Kingsholm and continuing my career with Gloucester.

"I must thank all the Medical, and the Strength and Conditioning staff behind the scenes, for the dedicated hard work that they put in over the past few months in helping me return to full fitness after my serious knee injury in April.

"It's great to be back in playing action and playing my part in the team's fortunes going forward. I am now hugely excited for the future and hopefully tasting success as part of this great club."

David Humphreys also spoke to the club website ahead of today's announcement.

"Gareth is a player with a bright future, who has impressed us with his ability, work rate and attitude. So, to secure his signature is great news for everyone.

"When Laurie and I joined the club in the summer, everyone spoke very highly of Gareth as one of a number of bright young rugby players at the club, and that is clear to see.

"He will hopefully be a big part of our future and we look forward to seeing him grow as a player."
