Sale Sharks are delighted to announce the signing of England hooker Rob Webber on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old will join up with the team in the summer after finishing the current season at Bath Rugby.

Webber has 13 full England caps and was a member of the 2015 England World Cup Squad. He started his career at Leeds Carnegie before moving to Wasps.

Director of Rugby Steve Diamond said:  "Rob fits perfectly into what we are trying to create at the club. He is a talented all round player, who is great at the set-piece and very mobile in the loose. He is at the top of his game and will bring with him a wealth of experience."

Webber played 109 games for Wasps, including a spell as captain before his move to Bath in 2012. He has played 59 time for Bath scoring seven tries.

Talking about his move to the Sharks, Webber said: "I’m really looking forward to the new challenge ahead. I have spoken to Steve Diamond and the lads I know at the club and they have all spoken highly about the environment at Sharks and what the club are looking to achieve.

"I have enjoyed my time at Bath and would like to thank the coaches, players and supporters who have all been great with me since I joined from Wasps."

Diamond added: "We will be making more signings and announcing the key players who have signed new deals over the coming weeks."

"Rob has been a great servant for Bath in his time here and it was a tough decision," said Mike Ford, Bath Rugby Head Coach. "He’s an experienced and talented player, who I’m sure will be a strong asset for Sale. I’d like to thank him for all the hard work he’s put in, and wish him all the best for the future."

Webber added: "I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with Bath and I have learnt a lot being a part of this club. I have made some great friends along the way and I’d like to wish them all the best in the years to come both on and off the pitch. I'd also like to thank the coaches and support staff for all their efforts. It goes without saying that for the rest of my time here I’ll be 100% focused on making sure we finish the season the way we want to, and rewarding the superb Bath supporters."
