DHL supports Harlequins in global growth

As Harlequins marked its 150th year with a special anniversary shirt last week, DHL, the Club’s Official Logistics Partner, has supported the Club’s international growth by exporting merchandise to every corner of the globe.

Online orders since Friday’s launch broke the previous opening weekend record by 119%, with over 50% of sales coming from new customers.

  • North America is a big growth market with sales increasing by 208%
  • Harlequins shirts can be seen on display across Europe, from hotbeds such as Ireland and France, to emerging rugby nations such as Spain and the Netherlands
  • The furthest order was placed from 10,092 miles away in Marion, South Australia

Players with international roots such as James Horwill (Australia) and Tim Visser (who represents Scotland, but was born in the Netherlands) are well supported in their respective nations, but the Harlequins shirt can be seen on all five continents.

Thanks to Harlequins’ increasing global profile, DHL has exported merchandise to nations as diverse as Sweden, the UAE and Malaysia.

David Ellis, Harlequins Chief Executive said: "The Harlequins shirt is instantly recognisable across the global rugby community and we are very fortunate to have an ever growing supporter base around the world. As part of our five year plan, we will be expanding our great club to new and exciting global audiences.

"The support that DHL gives Harlequins is vital to making this happen, from the delivery of merchandise to international team logistics, and we are very grateful to have such good Partners. We are at the beginning of a hugely exciting year for the Club and we look forward to enjoying it with our Members, supporters and Partners."

Phil Couchman, CEO of DHL Express UK & Ireland added: "For British businesses e-commerce is increasingly important, with revenue from overseas online sales set to hit £28bn by 2020. Harlequins are in an especially strong position to sell internationally. Their name is associated throughout the world with international stars, a pleasing playing style and of course that iconic quartered jersey. Tapping into DHL’s unrivalled network ensures the club can reach its fans wherever they may be."
