Charlie Walker and Winston Stanley re-sign for Harlequins

Harlequins can announce today (Tuesday 2nd August) that both Winston Stanley and Charlie Walker have committed their future to the Club.

Confirming the news, Harlequins Director of Rugby, John Kingston said: “I am absolutely delighted that both Charlie and Winston have seen fit to extend their contracts.

“I have no doubt that these two talented and valued backs have major roles to play going forward."

Walker, a graduate of the Harlequins Academy has been with the Club since joining from the Leicester Tigers Academy in 2010.

After making his senior club debut against Gloucester Rugby in September 2011 he has since made 52 appearances, scoring 23 tries and establishing himself as a potent attacking threat.

Making his mark on the Aviva Premiership during the 2013/14 season with a stunning try during Big Game 6, he has continued his fine form and was among the top try scorers in the Aviva Premiership during the 2015/16 campaign. His electric club form saw him finish the 2015/16 season as Harlequins’ top try scorer with 13 tries from his 16 appearances.

Commenting on the news, Walker said: “The decision to extend my time at Harlequins was quick and easy as I love everything about this club. I’m really excited to be working with the new management and I hope to be an integral part of the team in the years to come.”

Stanley, who is now in his second season with Harlequins, joined from Super Rugby side, the Highlanders.

Making his debut for the Club against Calvisano in the European Rugby Challenge Cup in December 2015, his appearances last season were restricted due to a hamstring injury sustained against Wasps in February of this year.

He returned from that injury in May, earlier than expected, and played two full 80 minute performances against London Irish and Exeter Chiefs, scoring in the latter.

The aggressive centre, capped twice by Samoa, is a dangerous ball carrier and a valuable asset to the Harlequins midfield.

Stanley added: “I am delighted to have committed to Harlequins. The Club is full of good people and it is very passionately supported. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to the future success of this club.”
