Adam Radwan signs for Newcastle Falcons’ senior academy

Eighteen-year-old flyer Adam Radwan has become Newcastle Falcons’ first new signing for next season, having agreed senior academy terms.

The Teessider has already played A-League rugby for the Falcons’ Development Team this season, scoring a length-of-the-field solo try at Leicester Tigers after starring for the club in the Singha 7s.

Radwan, who attended Hartlepool Sixth Form College, will finish this season playing for Darlington Mowden Park after his current club Billingham RUFC agreed to release him early to play at a higher level.

Newcastle Falcons’ academy manager Mark Laycock said: “We are delighted that Adam has signed a contract with our senior academy, taking him through to 2018.

“The support Adam has received through Chris Hyndman at Hartlepool Sixth Form College and Billingham RUFC has been excellent. Both institutes have played a huge part in his development to date and we are extremely grateful that they have supported his mid-season move to a higher level, where he can really test and challenge himself.”

Hyndman said: “Adam came to Hartlepool Sixth Form College as a relevant unknown, but having seen him play for his club it was obvious from the very start that he possessed tremendous pace and a real attacking threat.

“Having been around Adam for the last two years both at Hartlepool college and at Billingham RUFC it was clear that both were just a stepping stone for Adam’s future achievements.

“Adam joined the college from Middlesbrough Rugby Club and, as with any good sportsman, he possessed the ability to work hard, stay focused and had a real resilience.

“He has developed his game, improving his knowledge and basic skills, and the chance to move forward again to play National One rugby, as well as continuing his development in Newcastle’s professional environment, is wholeheartedly supported by all at Billingham Rugby Club, and it is a source of real pride for the college.”
