2016 Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Fixtures Released

CWade-Wasps-0607

Premiership Rugby today confirms the red hot fixtures for the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series which starts in Cardiff on 22 July with the series final in one month’s time on 7 August at Wasps’ Ricoh Arena.

It is an exciting time for rugby 7s with the sport about to make its first appearance at the Olympic Games since 1924. And the Singha 7s, the only 7s tournament where all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs and the four Welsh regions compete, is the leading club 7s event in a summer packed with 7s action.

After this year's competition starts in Wales, it will visit Exeter, Northampton and Newcastle before the showpiece series final in Coventry kicks off at 2pm on 7 August.

Dai Young, Wasps’ Director of Rugby is looking forward to the Singha 7s return to the Ricoh Arena.

"Last year’s Singha 7s saw a lot of impressive speed and skills on show," said Young.

"The series final couldn’t have been more dramatic even though sadly Wasps were on the wrong side of the drama with the title being clinched with a try in the very last play of the game.

"We will be aiming to reach the final again especially now that it will be at our home ground.

"It’s going to be a carnival atmosphere at the Ricoh on 7 August and it looks like we’re going to have a good crowd to see which team will win the first silverware of the season."

The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s boasts an impressive list of alumni including Elliot Daly, Christian Wade, Owen Farrell, George Ford, George Kruis, Jack Nowell, Jack Clifford, Anthony Watson, Jonathan Joseph, Ross Moriarty, Freddie Burns and Marland Yarde to name just a few.

"Every year, the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s unearths a host of impressive new talent,” said Phil Winstanley, Rugby Director, Premiership Rugby.

"It's a really exciting start to the season and a great way for players to show what they can do to be in contention for first team action."

Premiership Rugby is also delighted to announce that, for the first time, the Women’s Premiership Rugby 7s title will be decided as part of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Final on 7 August.

"We are delighted that the Women’s Premiership will be holding their 7s Final during the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final on 7 August and that BT Sport have agreed to show it live along with all of the action from the Singha 7s Groups and Series Final," said Paul Morgan, Communications Director at Premiership Rugby.

"It is another example of the expanding partnership between Premiership Rugby and the Women’s Premiership."

The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series kicks off on 22 July at Cardiff Arms Park with the Finals at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday 7 August. For tickets and details visit premiershiprugby.com/singha7stickets
